Australian maritime workers fight against global giant Hutchison

An ongoing low level dispute at the Botany Bay terminal in Sydney turned into a full scale industrial dispute when over a hundred workers were sacked via SMS text messages. A permanent picket line has been established in Sydney, with industrial action happening in the port of Brisbane, as well as other solidarity. While the matter is in mediation, the issue of the sackings is still unresolved (click here for updates). Hutchison has also been waging a union busting campaign in one of its terminals at the Indonesian port of Jakarta. Readers would remember that port workers in Hong Kong waged a bitter strike for almost 7 weeks against Hutchison and other operators. Against global companies like Hutchinson, workers also need to organise globally and take industrial action at Hutchison sites around the world.
