Black lungs disease a major killer in China

Chinese coal mines are a recognised danger zone for many workers due to the number of accidents that occur every year. Coal mines are also a huge contributor to Pneumoconiosis, or ‘Black Lung’ disease, a condition that occurs from inhaling excessive fine dust and pollutants, such as coal dust. In China, the presence of poor health and safety in many farm areas, as well as widespread pollution in cities, means that there are millions of Chinese who suffer from Black Lung disease. Labour activists who work towards improving health and safety, and better compensation, are often targeted by government authorities.
