Cambodian garment worker killed during protests

While low wages and weak labour laws have encouraged many garment companies to set up in Cambodia, workers have organised many protests over the years to better their wages and conditions. Unfortunately they have often been met with violence from government forces and hired thugs. In a demonstration of workers employed by SL Garment Processing held last week, one garment worker was murdered, eight wounded and many others arrested after they were attacked. This repression needs to be seen in a context of escalating protests by garment workers in many countries who are all trying to better wages and working conditions.
