Campaign to stop asbestos continues at global conference

This week, the city of Geneva, Switzerland hosted a major international conference that discussed whether to list chrysotile asbestos as a substance to be banned from use. Even though the World Health Organisation estimates that over 100,000 people are killed each year because of exposure to asbestos, powerful economic players are opposed to any ban on its use. Workers and labour groups have campaigned hard for many years to ban this substance. Workers and union representatives from all over the world gathered outside the conference in Geneva to lobby for a ban on all use of asbestos materials. Only strong and independent unions will guarantee any agreements.
