Explosion kills scores of workers in Bangladesh

An explosion at a packaging factory at Tongi, in Gazipur, Bangladesh, caused an uncontrolled fire that destroyed a 5 storey building. At the time of writing, at least 24 workers have been killed while more than 50 have been injured. This number may increase as the exact number of workers in the factory at the time of the fire is not known. Unfortunately, this latest massacre of workers in Bangladesh is just the latest in a long line of disasters in the last few years (see here and here). The suppression of trade unions and independent labour organisations is the principal cause as to why workers have to suffer atrocious working conditions.
