Free Farzad Kamangar

In 2007, the Iranaian government adopted a decree suspending the activities of the Teachers Trade Association.

Attempts by the Iranian teachers to organise union meetings to discuss issues related to the teachers’ status were disrupted. Teachers gathering for the meeting location were brutally assaulted and some were taken to a police station.

Teacher activist Farzad Kamangar was jailed on charges of  having “endangered national security” and being “at enmity with God”. He has been sentenced to death.

Iranian trade union colleagues and human rights activists who have shown solidarity with Farzad have been subjected to intimidation by the Iranian authorities.

Farzad Kamangar has been tortured while in detention and was denied medical treatment.
