Indian metro workers protest against casualisation and contracting out

The newly elected government of the Delhi Assembly, India’s capital district, came to power promising a better deal for many of the city’s workers. Contract workers employed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation took to the streets to press their claims to regularise their employment status and become permanent employees. Their demonstration was met by police barricades. When the workers went past these barricades, the police attacked the demonstration. This latest action is only the latest of an increasingly vocal working class in India.
