Jordan rocked by fresh wave of protests

Following a government announcement of a big increase in the price of domestic oil and gas, Jordan has witnessed some of the biggest anti government demonstrations and strikes by workers and other social groups. The increases were agreed by the government in line with a directive by the International Monetary Fund to thighten government budgets. Similar economic changes in countries around the region were one of the main contributing factors spurring the 'Arab Spring'. The numbers of industrial disputes in Jordan have escalated massively in the last year.
