Kazakhstan oil and gas workers still fighting

On 25 July, about 2,000 workers at the Burgylai company, a contractor to the KazMunaiGaz oil company, went on a 2 hour strike, and held a rally at the company to demand the release of their jailed comrades. Thirteen oil workers and supporters have been sentenced to between three and seven years prison, after a seven-month strike in Zhanaozen was broken up violently by authorities in December 2011. The appeal of their sentences was heard this week.
