The Barisan Nasional government with the Malaysian Employer Federation (MEF), are planning to make changes to three existing labour laws to the detriment of workers. The Malasian Human Rights organisation SUARAM says that:

  • Employers will be able to retrench workers easily since the workers can’t take legal action against them.
  • There will no longer be a permanent staff concept since the amendments propose for contract workers concept.
  • There will be no more relation between the employer and employee because there will be another group of sub contractors.
  • Workers can be called to work at any time.
  • OT payments can be delayed up to one month.
  • Acknowledgment status of Unions can be withdrawn.
