New Zealand meat workers enter 6th week of lockout. Over 1,000 workers at various meat processing plants in New Zealand are still in a major dispute over the renewal of their work contract. Talley's/AFFCO is trying to ‘starve’ the workers into submission by locking out the entire workforce. There is an international solidarity campaign in support of the workers demands.
Meanwhile, the Maritime Union of New Zealand has refused to settle for lower wages and conditions for workers at Auckland docks. Talks between the union and the bosses failed, and the dispute will now be referred to the Employment Relations Authority.
