Repression of workers in Turkey continues

The attempted military coup in Turkey of mid-July allowed the government to crack down on any real and apparent opposition. Tens of thousands of workers were affected by a wave of suspensions and dismissals in the days after the coup attempt. Unfortunately this campaign of repression against workers has continued. On 1 September, 10,000 public sector workers were sacked. Turkey is now the leading country in the world for imprisoning journalists, and over 11,000 teachers and allied personnel this week were suspended until further notice.
