On Wednesday June 20 over
220,000 taxi drivers across South Korea staged an historic,
nation-wide 24 hour strike. Drivers from across the country congregated for a mass rally in the public square in front of City Hall in Seoul on the day of the strike. The average taxi driver works 15 hours per day, seven days a week. The average monthly pay for a taxi driver is $1,128 (this works out to around $2-3 an hour). The driver's unions are demanding that the government raise the taxi flag fall and lower the price of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
