Workers at Hyundai motors in South Korea are in an industrial dispute with management. Both regular workers and irregular subcontractors have been taking industrial action. The regular workers union is demanding an end to the overnight “graveyard” shift and for a larger percentage of company profits to be allocated to incentive payments. The irregular workers union is demanding that Hyundai hire those who have worked for over two years as full time workers. Since July multiple strikes and work stoppages have taken place and on August 21 irregular workers attempted to occupy the factory by force. Industrial unrest continues.
