Workers killed in Qatar fire

This week a fire engulfed a housing complex for migrant workers in Qatar, killing 11  and injuring at least another 12 workers. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident as countries in West Asia, like Qatar, are renowned for their brutal exploitation of migrant workers and their anti-union practices (see here and here). Other major incidents in Qatar in the last few years have included the hundreds of workers being killed building stadiums for the 2022 World Cup, the keeping of Nepalese workers as virtual slaves, and exposures to toxic chemicals. An interactive map of West Asia gives a visual picture of many of these abuses.
