Ten construction workers, all from Vietnam and all with valid visas were arrested during March in Korea. The workers had been employed in Incheon on the construction of a new container wharf. The working conditions were very bad, and 200 workers staged a walkout demanding three meals a day free of charge, that the not be forced to work at night against their will, that they be allowed to have friends visit them in company-provided living quarters, and that they be allowed to have food, drink and alcohol in their living quarters. Some months after the strike the ten workers were arrested for being leaders of the walkout and they were brought to trial on fabricated charges of obstruction of business and assault with deadly weapons. The prosecution asked for sentences of six months to 2 years jail. Unions in Korea and internationally are requesting solidarity and support for the jailed workers. 지난 3월, 인천신항만 공사 작업을 하던 베트남건설이주노동자 10명이 파업을 이유로 체포되었다. 근로조건은 매우 열악했다. 200명의 베트남 이주노동자들은 세끼 식사 제공과 강제적인 야간근무를 반대하며 작업거부를 했다. 이들은 또한 동료 기숙사 방문이나 기숙사내 음주, 취사 허용 등 기본적인 권리를 요구했다. 그러나 파업 이후 파업을 이끈 주동자 10명이 구속됐다. 업무방해와 폭력 행사 등의 이유로 2년6개월의 징역을 받았다. 구속된 노동자들의 석방을 위한 국제 연대와 단결이 필요합니다.
