The Union for People’s Democracy has been formed by Thai political activists from 6 EU countries, who met in Brussels on 6 August 2011 to form the Union. They now have Thai and European members from 9 EU countries, and friends and comrades around the world are already offering their support.
Their first call is for an Action Day on 19 September – to mark 5 years since the 19 September military coup in 2006. They are calling for international solidarity to demand the release of all lèse majesté (LM) prisoners in Thai jails (unknown hundreds of people), and the abolition of LM Laws in Thailand, which are a primary tool of the ruling elite to block pathways to full democracy. This document provides more background information.
