The re-elected Japanese government headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has embarked on a drive to increase Japan’s military might as well as continuing to cut workers’ wages and conditions. This January, thousands of people protested against plans to move and extend US military bases. In early March tens of thousands more protested against plans to restart Japan’s nuclear industry, while later in March thousands marked the 4th year anniversary of the Fukushima disaster. Another mass rally was held on the 22nd of March to protest against the government’s economic policies.
