The 6 month long uprising has created new political and social spaces in Syria.
Civil communities are now assuming their powers and re-establishing themselves. Before this time, unions and other organisations were under government control, Their role was to suppress individual opinion and re-affirm that the government was the leader of the state and society. The aims of the new organisations that are now being created are to protect their members’ rights, and to serve the communities they represent.
