We’ve reported extensively (here, here and here) on the Gadani Ship Breaking workers fight for better conditions and safety at work. With the help of National Trade Union Federation (NTUF), the Gadani Ship breaking workers formed their union and are plannedg to hold the first ever "Ship breaking Workers Convention" on 1st July at Gadani Yard, Balochistan. On the instigation of ship owners, powerful contractors have been using local administration and police to harass union leaders to cancel the convention. At the last minute, the NTUF decided to postpone this meeting because it could not guarantee the safety of those workers participating.
