The terrible working conditions that migrant workers have to endure when working in some West Asian countries has been well documented (see here, here, and here.) There has been a constant struggle by workers to organise independent unions so as to be able to fight for better wages and conditions. In late January, this became a reality for 200 domestic workers in Lebanon when they formed the Domestic Workers Union of Lebanon. This is an important first step and hopefully it will lead to many other new unions for migrant workers.
