This announcement has been met with widespread scepticism as the new regulations will hand the military even more powers to suppress dissent. Under such conditions there can be no return to democracy and any elections would be a fraud. In the same week, a military court sentenced a man to 25 years jail for insulting the monarchy on Facebook. The man was sentenced under the draconian Lese Majeste law.
