On the 28th of March, Mr. Akachai Hongkangwan was sentenced to over three years in jail for selling CDs of a recorded Australian current affairs program which looked at the Thai royal family and the use of the Lese Majeste law. This is the latest case in a wave of repression against activists in Thailand through the use of Article 112. Many are facing long prison sentences. Noted labour activist and journalist Somyot Prueksakasemsuk will now ask again for bail as well as launch an appeal against his conviction.
