In 2009 thousands of workers at the Ssangyong Motor Company production factory took action to stop mass lay offs. The workers occupied part of the factory and held out for over 2 months against repeated assaults by the police and military. Many workers were jailed afterwards. Mr Han Sang Kyun, the secretary of the local KMWU chapter originally received four years jail. Many others lost their jobs and some later killed themselves. After serving three years, on the 4th of August 2012, Mr. Han is scheduled to be released. We salute Mr. Han Sang-Kyun, a working class hero.
