Since late last year, Korean workers have been under sustained attack, with the government and the companies weakening workers’ power through legislative attacks on union rights and workers’ rights to secure employment. Choi Jeong-myeong and Han Gyu-hyeop are two workers from Kia Motors who have been atop a billboard for almost a year to protest against subcontracting practices. Hyundai workers are still seeking justice while public sector workers are mounting a new campaign against precarious work. At the same time, many workers are still in jail following workers demonstrations in December of last year.
