Thailand protests continue amid new repressive laws

The military regime in Thailand is continuing to tighten its grip over any dissent by passing new laws restricting the right of protest and assembly. The latest laws have sparked justified concerned by labour groups who now see that its reach will also stifle and suppress actions in support of workers’ demands. In other news, students at Thammasat University protested at the dismissal of Somsak Jeamteerasakul, a noted critic of the military junta, while a new solidarity group is forming to support the increasing number of political prisoners in Thai jails.
