AAWL has received the following appeal from KSBSI:
Free Suyadi and Mansyur
Suyadi is KSBSI Branch Board Leader of Hukatan and Mansyur is Plant Level Leader of Hukatan. Hukatan have 137 members in this group of farmers.
They fighting for their right to live and work in their land. They have permit to live and work in their land by authority in their place. PT. Benau Coal (Coal Mining Company) occupy their land and force them to leave from their land.
13 January 2011 farmers gave a report to Suyadi that Company occupy their land and Suyadi initiated to go together with farmers to visit the land. But in the location Police arrest them and bring them to the police station using Police Truck. Police let all the farmers and Suyadi go from the Police station without questions or action.
16 January 2011, two days after Police District personnel arrested Suyadi and Mansur. They arrested with sentences: Doing provocation, disturb of privacy and entrance Coal Mining Location without permit. Suyadi got five months and Mansyur seven months. The High Court later extended Suyadi’s imprisonment until 20 September 2011.
Police of Berau District and PT. Berau Coal action is against Human Rights of the people to live, work and unionise. We urge to all of our friend in the world to support their struggle and send protests to the Government of Indonesia.
