Last year, Hong Kong witnessed massive and sustained protests by tens of thousands of people for greater democracy and greater political space to organise. These protests were met with repression and arrests (see here and here). This week, thousands took to the streets again to mark the 1st anniversary of those protests and to remind the Hong Kong government that these issues have not been resolved. The struggle for democratic rights in Hong Kong will continue and is bound with events in the rest of China, especially the role of the workers’ movement and their ability to intervene in this struggle.
