A meeting of the Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations was attacked by security forces on 15 June. The meeting was discussing setting up unions and independent labour organisations. 60 people were arrested and transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj city but were not charged under any criminal law. The next day it was reported that most of these workers were released from jail, but it is believed that 9 still remain in custody. These arrests are part of an ongoing wave of repression by the Iranian government against unionists as workers try to organise in order to defend their wages and conditions. There is an international campaign calling for the release of the remaining 9 Iranian trade unionists.
