7.7 Global Standard
This has become the accepted international standard for fire crews to respond in the major cities of the world. For very good reason, based on science and lots of experience.
7.7 Saves Lives
The quicker fire crews respond, the greater their chance of rescuing people from burning structures. Or saving motorists in vehicle accidents. Firefighters are also trained to provide first aid. They carry defibrillators and other life-saving equipment. (MFB fire crews currently respond in less than 7.7 minutes; ambulances can take up to 19 minutes.)

7.7 IS UNDER THREAT
With the CFA already stretched to the limit, the MFB now wants to scrap the mandantory minimum number of firefighters on duty – a standard that’s been in place for decades. This will erode Melbourne’s fire protection. The response time by fire crews must increase. The MFB will save money. Inevitably this will cost lives and property, to the detriment of families, businesses and insurers.
The MFB says it can stretch its resources and still respond to emergencies. This is rubbish. No one knows when or where a fire or accident will happen. No one predicted major disasters like Coode Island. No one knows when or where tonight’s house fires and car accidents will happen.
SAVE 7.7
Reducing the number of MFB firefighters on duty MUST lead to longer response times. Longer response times WILL cost lives and property. Stand up to the MFBs proposed cuts, and demand the CFA is given the resources it needs to get the job done.
This rally, organised by the firefighters or Victoria, demands the Government call off the cuts to the MFB, and properly resource the CFA with additional staff and stations to deal with fires.
