The last few weeks have been murderous for workers employed at the shipbreaking yards in the region of Chittagong, Bangladesh. According to reports, in a series of incidents, five workers were killed while five others were seriously injured. What these latest tragedies show is that safe workplaces remain a distant goal for Bangladeshi workers. Unfortunately in a situation where independent labour organising is repressed, deaths and injuries remain common (see here and here).
