As previously reported, the issue of job security and the struggle against casualisation and contracting out has become a major issue for all workers in South Korea. Last week, over 20,000 support workers in schools went on strike in a long running battle to be classified as regular workers. They have now set up a protest camp outside the National Assembly. In a separate dispute, two technical workers, Kang Seong-deok and Lim Jeong-gyun, from the Cable and More company, have been sitting atop a billboard tower to protest against that company’s use of casual workers and of recent lay offs. In an ongoing campaign, Gahyun Lee is still fighting the global giant McDonalds after she was sacked for being a union activist.
