More than 10,000 teachers and principals, members of the Australian Education Union, staged their biggest ever stop work rally on 7 June 2012. The rallies overwhelmingly supported a resolution to stage further stop works and impose bans and limitations if the Victorian State Government refuses to budge from its offer of 2.5% pay increase a year, which is a pay cut in real terms. Further, no progress has been made on the major issues of class sizes, workload or the high level of contract employment. Not only that, the Government is proposing a system of payment-by-results which would divide teachers and set principals against staff.
