In a very disappointing outcome, Mr. Yi Yoon-seong lost an appeal in the Seoul administrative court for damages against Samsung Electronic. In 15 years of employment at Samsung, Yi used around 20 toxic chemicals in his duties to clean and maintain furnaces. Yi was never trained in how to use these chemicals safely and now suffers from a generative muscle and nerve disease. In another case involving Samsung, a documentary describing the fight by the father of Ms. Hwang Yumi, who died of Leukemia in early 2007, to achieve recognition and compensation is now gaining an international audience.
