Yemen was one of the countries were the ‘Arab Spring’ found fertile ground as people rose up against inequality, poverty, corruption and repression. Workers and unions were central to many of these struggles but the forces of reaction were also very strong and many people were killed. After 4 years, the situation is now deteriorating with militaries from a coalition of regional countries now directly intervening into Yemen. These interventions will only worsen the situation for workers and their communities. The examples from countries like Iraq and Syria show how such wars only benefit the ruling classes and represent a catastrophe for workers.
